Pros

Casual work environment. Great job for entry level career jobs.

Cons

I opted into the cheapest healthcare option with the highest deductible, and I am still paying an insanely high monthly premium for me and my husband. My annual salary increases do not keep up with annual premium increases, so I literally make LESS money each year despite being a model employee.

Not the Worst You Can Do

Pros

-The pay is the most significant advantage. IP does pay a living wage and there are yearly raises. -The benefits are OK. About 3 weeks vacation plus most holidays, expensive but decent health insurance, good 401k matching. -Not the worse way to get your food in the door for other technology positions

Cons

-International Paper's bulk of employees are very old, and so a lot of the processes, policies, and services are extremely outdated. -You will find it VERY hard to thrive if you are not a social butterfly, a networking whiz, a previous intern, or if you don't know the right people. This is a pervasive issue company-wide but it's particularly bad in the IT department and in the Service Desk, where those liked by management will get promoted regardless of qualifications, performance, or process. I have seen people getting fired just to give the position to someone's family member. I have seen entire procedures get changed to give promotions to unqualified candidates who happen to be best friends with management. I have seen entire positions get created for no purpose other than hiring specific individuals. -The environment within the Service Desk has eroded through the years. You will be micromanaged to extremes, you will not have many opportunities to grow or learn beyond the scope of the job, and you will see your rights and privileges diminish as months go by.

Pros

IP pays very well. competitive benefits. They'll give you plenty to do.

Cons

Extremely demanding hours. senior execs are ULTRA conservative and reactive. All avenues for growth are disappearing and they're back to perennial 'cost cut' mode. The time you work for them or results you achieved, may mean very little if you ever got on the wrong side of one of their SVPs.
