Pros

Got to travel a lot and see the world. Ample opportunities to join new projects and learn new functionality.

Cons

Very political. Time, attention, and effort often focused on recruiting rather than rewarding long-time, seasoned employees. Lots of very "by-the-book" managers with no real talent for managing diverse teams.

Pros

Decent pay for this area of the valley. Union facility Gated compound New hires get bonus

Cons

Upper management is a joke, no structure what so ever. Plant manager is incompetent and lacks people skills. Most of the employees are new with less than 3 years experience. High turnover rate due to rotating shifts every week and poor training. Building was established back in the 70’s and has caught fire more times than i can remember. Employees are constantly getting hurt but dont report their injuries due to the fact that supervisors threaten them with write-ups and job termination. Poor ventilation in the summer, multiple employees ask for more fans and managment just blows them off and gives them electrolytes packets. Facility is a ticking time bomb just waiting to happen. No clothing or boot allowance. No end of the year bonus. No work life balance. Management will micromanage you whether you like it or not and complaining to your supervisor or union rep will only make it worse. New HR rep is new and lacks the knowledge to properly perform her duties, she was the former secretary of one of the sales reps, hired internally by her friend the old HR representative. Every decision made there is political, if you dont align with their agenda you will not move up the ranks and will be target for retaliation.

Decent company but very old fashioned

Pros

Good ability to move around internally, especially as a new hire. Fairly good pay, especially for Memphis.

Cons

Very old fashioned. I guess one shouldn't expect forward thinking from an old manufacturing company, but i t was very frustrating how behind the times IP was in many ways. Horrible maternity leave, the idea of paternity leave literally would generate a lol from management, they wouldn't even consider temporary flexible work arrangements. IP is one of the last companies to still have a pension (closed for new hires). This pension means the company skews VERY old as people will not leave. The company is wildly out of touch with under 40 crowd, much less the priorities of recent college grads. In many ways its like 1985 at IP. Almost every senior person you will interact with is a married old white man. Cant speak for all groups, but communication was horrible in mine. No one ever had any idea what the hell was going on.
