Very Happy to be an IRMI employee

Pros

IRMI has an open door policy. Many companies I have worked for in the past claimed to have an open-door policy; however, they did not want to hear any negative feedback. If you knock on an executive's door, they will invite you in. They will even remind you they have an open-door policy. You do not need to fear sharing your opinions or thoughts. At first I was skeptical, but it is true. The Owl's Nest room is amazing. If you need to take a minute to rest, meditate, just focus, or have a moment to yourself this is a great room. This is the first company that I've worked for that has one. It's been a blessing. No hiding under your desk if you have a migraine and need a dark place to go for 5-10 minutes. I'm never afraid to share challenges or difficulties I'm having at work with my boss. He never makes me feel "stupid" to ask. He doesn't tell me "I' don't have time so go find it or read about it in a book". Have a question about a task? Just ask! Have a question about a company goal? Just ask! I appreciate the snacks in the kitchen. Not everyone drinks coffee. It's extremely nice of the company to include sodas and healthy snacks. It was an excellent idea when you added bananas, oranges, and apples. In our department, our executive has instituted a "New Idea" submission. Each submission is discussed with the departmental leadership, investigated, and the employee is notified of the outcome. Compensation is competitive. PTO is competitive, and your standard Major Holidays (would like to see a couple of the smaller banking holidays added since my spouse receives them).

Cons

New employee training was a little difficult. I was being trained by a remote employee. There wasn't a list of "these are your daily/weekly/monthly" tasks. As I've been in this position, I have created a directory of important documents. It's great to have photos in Outlook so you can put a face with a name, unless the photo is outdated. IRMI took new photos this year and will be updating the photos. This will be extremely helpful to new employees (and would have been to me a few years ago). With being mostly remote, this is the only way you learn to put faces with names. It’s a fairly flat organization, so promotion opportunities are less frequent than at larger companies, but there are plenty of opportunities to take on more responsibility. They do a good job of recognizing individual contributions, and they review salaries annually to ensure pay is competitive. My commute - although this is my choice to have moved further from the office, knowing we go to the office twice a week. On the other hand, I feel like there is no need for me to look for another position closer to my home because I love my job, the company culture/atmosphere, and the people I work with. My true "con" would be the copay for office specialists and the high deductible. I would rather pay a little more each pay period than have high copays/deductibles. Even if that was an option for me to chose a higher monthly amount and lower deductible versus the higher amounts. Luckily I don't have to insure a family. The family deductible is outrageous. So much now falls under deductible that we are paying more - physical therapy, advanced imaging, and medical equipment (like braces, etc.).

Boasts family values but they don't show up for it.

Pros

Ok salary and benefits Friendly coworkers Private offices

Cons

Company promotes family values and lives by core values that are drilled into everything we do. However, they will make decision on whatever they want without employees input and not in their best interest. So they boast about caring but in the end don't truly care.

International Risk Management Institute Response

The IRMI Executive Team recently made a change in our work from home policy that we believe is best for the company over the long term (requiring two days in the office instead of one). The decision was based on many factors. We did consider the impact on employees but concluded it was best for the company. Obviously, this colleague isn’t happy with the change. We wouldn’t have earned the distinction of being a “best place to work in Dallas” if we did not listen to our employees and “take their feedback to heart.” But that doesn’t mean we must do everything every employee wants us to do. Sometimes it is necessary to make decisions that are in the best interest of the company or the group as a whole rather than for individual employees. That’s exactly what happened here. Be sure to read the other Glass Door reviews of the company before making a conclusion about our corporate culture, which is built on respect for our colleagues.
