The Good and Otherwise Not So Much

Pros

Easy to sell high quality clothing. Doesn’t involve nighttime work hours. Ability to maintain a loyal following of wonderful customers who are such a pleasure to deal with. Solid and committed coworkers. Employee discount very good.

Cons

Due to small staffing there are times when I must work alone — which in itself is not a problem, but there are days when in store traffic is extremely low and time drags by so slowly it’s mind numbingly painful. I feel that were it not for such a strong following of return customers, I’m not sure the store would be sustainable. But that is just my opinion. Our clothing appeals to a certain demographic of those interested in a tasteful conservative style and have the financial means to afford it. Sizing runs 0-14. Associates are discouraged from reaching out directly to anyone in Corporate, even at the District Manager level. Your only channel is through your store manager. If your store manager happens to be the source of the problem (I’m fortunate to have a kind, caring and fair minded store manager) then you will need to think about resigning. It’s just that simple. And finally, there appears to be no evaluation and reward (salary increase potential) system in place.

Big promises, little in return.

Pros

The people at the store level; the clientele. Hours of operation, store events; 15% can be given back to a non-profit of your choice.

Cons

Corporate is out of touch. They spend like crazy so the store level suffers. They don’t mention you will be doing all web orders and have little time to make plan or grow your business. This company is not stacked in the employee’s favor. What many said was once great, is now gone.

Pros

Clothing allowance. Retail store hours are better than most companies.

Cons

Working and running a business and selling to customers alone in a store because corporate needs to cut payroll hours so they can get a bonus. Other businesses set their managers up for success with better training and incentives. There used to be a culture of kindness but no longer seems that way. Company benefits are terrible.
