Pros

Many opportunities to work on fixing a very broken retailer with a tarnished brand reputation. This place could be good again, and you're going to have to work very hard to get it there.

Cons

Terrible leadership -- the worst leaders I've ever had. They thrive on backroom drama and conniving to make one another look bad in front of their leaders. Expectations are that you're available to work and answer emails and phone calls 24/7. Managers attempt to motivate people through fear and threats.

Pros

You will get to work with a lot of smart, experienced people. Definitely a sense of camaraderie, and you will make friends for life working there. The PTO policy and Flex Fridays are also great. So far, the new CEO really seems to know what he's doing and offers a good sense of direction at the company. Also, the highly competitive salaries don't hurt.

Cons

You will work long, hard hours and it can be frustrating when it's all in the guise of being for/a part of the "JCPenney family." At times, goals can seem very contradictory and counterproductive.

Salon Manager

Pros

The money was good for what I had to do. It wasn't high stress unless your numbers were down and corporate was coming in. I had free reign to do what I needed with my staff as long as their productivity was up and things were running smooth.

Cons

The store manager didn't like confrontation and would always come up with lame excuses of why she had to "speak" with someone. She knew of inside theft and did nothing about it. She had me in the store working doing things like cash room for the office, rebuilding cash registers, fixing ipads and ipods which was ok because I needed brain stimulation but sometimes my staff would feel like she should have had me working in the store instead of the salon. There seemed to be no direction at the corporate level, they were forever changing their minds.
