Pros

Stable contracts A variety of job options

Cons

This more aimed at the former Buffalo Group than Jacobs. I was on a stable contract with terrible leadership. I would constantly be contacted outside of working hours, I was called in last minute with no warning causing me to cut my family trip short, and once I requested PTO and when I didn’t show up I was blamed by my manager for him not doing his job! I was also treated poorly for standing up for myself on these kinds of things. I work for a better company now and it is a stark difference. I get treated respectfully like an actual person with rights. I’m aware that some of the things I’ve said here are standard in some work environments but if you are like me you want better…and I encourage you to be very careful about taking a job here. The pay is also extremely low for the industry and location in NOVA.

Pros

Competitive pay and good benefits.

Cons

No clear direction in the DoD sector. The managers they've promoted to lead these business development efforts don't have the experience needed to be successful. As a result, they make knee jerk decisions that causes upheaval across the organization only to change course again several months later. In the 2 years I worked here as a BD Principal there were 4 reorganizations. Every 6 months. I was routinely assigned to large scale ($700M - $1B) proposals that were due in months only to be pulled and put on another one with just as short a suspense. I wasn't the only one either so each proposal team had a revolving door of people being assigned then pulled for other proposals. Very inefficient and poor management.

Pros

Very flexible. Allows remote full-time work. Does not micro-manage. Managers applaud your work and are very supportive. Very safety conscious. Managers in general are good listeners.

Cons

Too much work for 40-hour full time job. Sometimes feel they take advantage of your "salary" position to get more work out of you instead of hiring supportive roles to offload the work. They preach work-life balance, but feel the work is very overwhelming at times. Although they are great about making sure everyone is safe, it's almost to the point where it is annoying where they monitor your speed and every move in company cars and make you fill out forms for safety before you can do anything.
