Pros

Janney is a great place to work if you want to come in, do your work and go home. If you are the type of person that enjoys a corporate feel/environment that is conservative and slow to adapt, than this company is a good fit

Cons

It seems that this company is more concerned with bringing in more, experienced outside talent than they are with growing and developing their own. The problem this creates is that all of the talent (with the exception of a few) ends up spending a couple years and moving on to another company, rather than continuing to develp at Janney. Management at Janney is very cautious to do or even listen to anything at all that is different or perceived as outside the box. It's as if management is just looking out for themselves and getting their primary job done, whether or not it actually improves the business. As long as the job requested by the bosses boss is complete, all is well (evident when ideas are brought to the table). If you're a person that is looking to grow and develop their career I would stay away from Janney.

Pros

The company, although around for 175 years, does not have a a very well defined business plan. This sounds negative but can be a positive when leading a department because of the lack of business plan allows for you to be creative and develope your departments identity.

Cons

Sr. Management does not show strong leadership capabilities and mis-aligns their focus onto the wrong areas. This trickles down and makes the day to day job of a manager much more difficult because Sr. Management does not have a clear focus and goals are always moving. Very little training and very little feedback.

Where is the opportunity?

Pros

There is good access to management and for the most part positive attitudes among management and the senior level employees.

Cons

While there should be great opportunity given the realignment and focus on capital markets, Janney's Investment Bank does not award its employees who have stayed with the company for a long time and seems focused on those who are just joining the firm
