Pros

Good benefits and many good people. The company is very money conscious which contributes to their success financially. They continue to grow and open more stores. They are high-quality conscious and go the extra mile to make sure products are of exceptional quality. Jos. A. Bank is known for its high quailty clothing.

Cons

If you are salaried, forget having a personal life. The culture is such that there is no work\life balance whatsoever. The needs of the company come first, above family, personal time, etc. Communication between management and workers is poor. Management decisions are made with no feedback whatsoever from employees. Employees are motivated by fear, not by positive reinforcement. My co-workers and I were not given raises, bonuses or any kind of extra compensation for two years (2007 - 2009) because of "the economy", despite the fact that our work helped the company grow and perform phenomenally over that period and stock prices went up. As positions were vacated or became available, there was a "revolving door" of new faces, some who would be there for a day or two, perhaps a week, and then mysteriously disappear. We were usually not told why these people didn't stay and turnover was kept "hush hush". But the turnover was obvious, even for people who stuck around for 6 months or longer. Many of those die-hards who did stay long-term accepted that this treatment was normal and just part of their corporate culture. Even HR had this attitude and it was the reason that workers didn't bother to complain, in fear of losing the job they had. There is this "If you don't like it, there's the door" attitude. But 60-80 hours per week is not my idea of a life. Actually using vacation time was frowned upon and planned vacation time was sometimes even taken away if management felt that you needed to be there for work demands. If you're a workaholic, then this company is your dream. But if you want a life and a future, run - and run fast. There are better companies out there to work for. I tell all to stay away.

Pros

-Opportunities to meet successful professionals -Co-workers are generally friendly

Cons

-Pay is good for a high-school student, but certainly not someone with bills to pay. Unless you work in a big downtown store, you more than likely won't make commissions. -Deep discounts get people in the door, but won't help you make commissions. Constant sales are hard to keep track of and cheapen the product. -Outrageous hours during holiday season. Managers don't seem to have much concern for employee exhaustion. Many retail outlets offer employees one weekend off per month; associates never get a Saturday off unless it was a mistake or requested weeks in advance. -Aside from the occasional employee sale, the regular sale is almost always better than the employee discount. They always stress that employees should wear their product, but refuse to give a deeper discount, even though the regular prices are marked up ungodly amounts. -Technology is extremely dated. I've never worked for a company that relied so much on a fax machine, especially in a world with e-mail . -Horrible music gets stuck in your head on days off. You would figure at a high end clothier, they would play light jazz or something classy; instead it's horrible covers of modern songs and jungle/porno music.

Pros

Great pay, compared to all other similar jobs for other retailers. This company has done really well in recent years and likes to support its employees well.

Cons

Very hard work on your feet all day, no couch for breaks, many people need to take extra care of their feet in order to work. Environment is slightly judgemental.
