Pros

At John Lewis they really take care of their employees. The pay isn't great but its down to the individual if they want to develop their careers training is there for everyone and this will reflect in your pay! so the more you do the more your pay increases! Everyone is so supportive and friendly, I've only been there for two years but the company is heading in the right direction.

Cons

We do three weeks late and one week early which could be a drag when your getting home eight thirty at night. Also in the month of December everyone has to do five nine o'clock finishes and you cant take any holidays during that time because of the Christmas trade!

Pros

There is a great corporate culture. Very warm and inclusive, lots of different clubs and societies to join, the Partnership gives you all sorts of special offers and discount, as well as running five of its own staff-only hotels at which you can stay. You're not paid commission so do not have to be the sterotypical pushy salesperson. The bonus is always generous: staff were given a mininum of 13% (7 weeks') extra pay even during the worst of the credit crunch, and this has been as high as 20% (10 weeks' worth) in the past.

Cons

The customers are often very demanding, and service standards are high, which means you have to stay extremely patient with occasionally difficult customers. It may take you a while to "break into" the company as some people are very protective of their departments and responsibilities against outsiders. Pay (before bonus) is only average. Otherwise little to criticise.

Pros

Very good benefits package available to all employees from three months employment. Generally supportive managerial staff.

Cons

Not many opportunities for individuals to progress quickly, especially from the bottom of the pay bands.
