Pros

My colleagues were nice, and it is convenient to stay home but lonely and uninspiring. The lessons are pre-made like a stale box of generic mac and cheese. I didn't have all the classroom misbehavior of a normal school.

Cons

Pay is the lowest in the state. Frustrating, unrealistic expectations were placed on all of us from corporate (Stride K12). I was told I would be teaching a couple of classes and it turned out I was given 10 separate classes in middle and high school and over 300 students! I was told they did hands-on lessons and that was not true. The content hasn't changed in 10 years so all the answers to questions are online and they use their resources (cheat). Only 30% of students attended mandatory live sessions and there was no accountability for lack of attendance. The workload kept increasing throughout the year and new confused students were continuously being added throughout the year.

Yes, the company is misleading.

Pros

One of the reviews mentioned that the company is misleading, I agree. The "pros" are not really, "pros." But, if I have to list them, here they are: 1. work from home (most of the time) 2. you get summers off (kind of) 4. medical insurance is decent, for myself.

Cons

Here is the truth/cons: 1. You work from home, but the job is still quite demanding. There are many administrative tasks to perform daily and weekly. Also, you will physically have to monitor state testing. 2. The technology systems/platforms are incredibly inefficient. Something as simple as putting in a help desk ticket can take all day or weeks. 3. You're not informed that you will only get the month of July off for "summer." 4. Majority of the students in my class never turn in anything, show up, or participate. I feel like I'm talking to myself most of the time. I believe it's a waste of time for me, which is one of the main reasons I've resigned. 5. The salary is VERY LOW. It is not even comparable to the school districts near me. I accepted the position because it was a work from home opportunity but, the stress, required mental energy, low salary, and company inefficiencies are not worth it. I do not recommend teaching for this company. I believe educators deserve much better.

Pros

The impact we are making in children's education and career pathways is wonderful.

Cons

Stride has a toxic work culture! You never know when you will get laid off, they claim to be diverse and inclusive but they are not, 19 senior executives in the company with 4 women and only one minority woman, they are a for-profit company and value profits rather than their employees, they focus on recruiting rather than retention. The new CEO has created a culture where people are afraid to speak up at meetings because they are afraid to lose their jobs. The CEO lacks empathy, inclusiveness, open-mindedness, and humility. There is no room for career progression. They will pile on jobs on top of the one you have and not increase your pay. They're an education company but will not pay employees when they obtain certification or degrees in hopes to get promoted or an increase in their salary. They always lay people off right before the year ends to avoid paying bonuses and to keep more profit for the business owners and shareholders. They have managed to make billions off of education which should be provided to children for free on top of treating employees like they are just numbers.
