Pros

Good salary, decent benefits, Excellent professional development opportunities (trainings, graduate degree opportunities, etc.), committed coworkers, opportunities for growth and career advancement through leadership

Cons

School autonomy means that your experience depends heavily on your school leadership and staff; hours are much longer than DCPS

Pros

The school has dedicated staff and uses effective curriculum, instruction and methods for teaching its students. The organization salary is good for the D.C area and has wonderful benefits.

Cons

The schools are plagued by challenging behavioral problems and constant turnover in teachers. There is a lack of professional development for educators. There is not a system in place to fairly evaluate educators and you can lose your job at any time without a reason. The contractual hours are from 7:30-5:30, however due to the workload teachers often stay later.

Pros

KIPP DC offers great benefits for teachers and excellent pay. They provide a lot of technology for the students which gives them a chance to be ahead of the curve. The school is well-kept and taken care of.

Cons

Depending on your campus you may run into some issues with upper management. Certain schools have issues with celebrating cultural holidays i.e. black history month. Upper management can also sometimes be intimidated by teachers who question the curriculum or things that are immoral happening at the school. Be prepared to bite your tongue if you're opinionated about the world around you and actually care about the lives of your students. Passiveness is probably one of the only ways to keep your job (at certain campuses).
