Pros
- The students are fun and fantastic, as you'd find at any school... - Coaching is spotty but you sometimes receive a thoughtful, reliable coach who gives detailed and personalized feedback - School is invested in anti-racist practices and closing the achievement gap - School is invested in supporting families and keeping in contact with them - Lots of opportunities for further professional development and career growth - Lots of teaching resources, usually.
Cons
- Leadership changes every 1-3 years making for no consistency in management - systems and rules constantly change leading to difficulties in grading and behavior policies - Leaders are not equipped to lead the school - lack experience due to constant turn over - Constant turn over of staff makes for a dysfunctional workplace, constantly filling holes in the middle of the year, always playing catch up, students are used to teachers leaving - Nepotism is rampant and cliques often form - if you're not in a "clique" the admin likes, good luck. - Management manipulates, guilts, and berates staff for not working hard enough - if a student is failing, it is your fault - Working 50 hours, at least, in-person, lots of prep at night and on the weekend
