      Not such a great place to work in a down economy.

      Pros

      Good cutting edge technology. Real engineering tasks to work on. Interesting problems to solve. Technically bright people to work with.

      Cons

      Constant cost cutting. Layoffs almost every quarter, leading to overloaded resources and very poor moral. Management tripping over themselves to outsource everything from software development, manufacturing and now engineering of new products as well as support of existing. This too is leading to very poor moral. Especially when you are asked to train your replacement in China or Israel and then watch your job disappear.

      Death by a thousand cuts

      The opportunity to do "real engineering"- not social networking, etc.

      Cons

      The only way to make numbers is to cut people, and now the remaining folks are completely overloaded. The latest game is to have everyone enter their skills into SuccessFactors software so that they can be "strategically aligned with opportunities within the company". If there are so many opportunities, why are we closing an entire campus? I think mgmt realize that there are no more small cuts left to make. Time for some MAJOR changes, like entire divisions. It's time to start ranking people.

      Pros

      KLA-Tencor used to be a good place to work with upward mobility. Those days are gone and are never coming back.

      Cons

      KLA-Tencor is a meat grinder. They have a what have you done today attitude toward employees. You have to look out for yourself because your manager isn't going to do anything for you. Since Rick Wallace became CEO KT has been racing to the bottom to send jobs overseas. They will work you 80+ hours a week, Holidays, Weekends, and send you all over the world on a moments notice and never give you any credit for anything on your review or raises.
