Pros

Kapost and Kaposters truly live the values they claim to hold. People are here to work and get stuff done, yet have fun while doing it. Great culture.

Cons

I have nothing to complain about.

Wasted Potential

Pros

Strong edge in hot area of market. Smart people. Creative colleagues who do some amazing work at a speed that few companies could match. Great R&D staff with true vision. Tons of promise to be a contender in the market. Some opportunity to try new things as long as your manager has your back.

Cons

Classic startup woes. CEO is a hothead who's more of a project manager than a leader, product gaps get in the way of growth, and big money spent on offices / off-sites while struggling with sales. Constant strategy shifts are hard to keep up with. HR team promoted alcohol and pizza parties heavily as the culture. Many are early in career & learning on the job, yet no job training and a lot of complaining and blaming when problems come up. A hot mess of a company.

Smart, fun team but organization lacks vision and discipline

Pros

My positive experiences are largely team specific. There were extremely smart and caring people throughout the company. Individuals worked very hard to exceed expectations and cared about helping their colleagues succeed. At least for my team, building and maintaining culture was a high priority, not just something to pay lip service to. In general, Kapost was a fun company where good friendships developed and employees had generous work-life balance.

Cons

The biggest con for me was that the company lacked vision and the discipline to see one through. In my few years there, I went through multiple, abrupt pivots. It felt as if the exec team regularly made decisions out of desperation and as a result, dug itself deeper into desperation. Additionally, while there were a few great leaders at Kapost, management often behaved like a boys' club and that behavior trickles down as a result. There was also really high turnover at Kapost; it seemed as if someone awesome was leaving every week (occasionally with a bit of scandal). Those that stayed seemed driven to do so because of the generous work-life balance and to feed their egos, not because they cared about improving the product or the content marketing community. While work-life balance is great, pay is notably below market. At first this seemed like a good compromise but since leaving, I've learned it's remarkably, almost offensively, lower.

Thank you for taking time to share your feedback. It’s great that you enjoyed the team you started with at Kapost and that you had a good work-life balance while you were here. Of course, as a growing company, there are points where we do have to make changes to support our growth and our customers. This means that new teams have to be put into place, and roles shifted to allow us to expand. Even though these changes are a natural part of growth, I hear they may not have been a great fit for you, and at points may have felt challenging. I am sorry to hear you felt as if the leadership team behaved as a “boys’ club”. As a member of the leadership team at Kapost, and a woman, that has not been my experience. The team takes our core values seriously and works steadily to create a great culture where all people are heard and supported. While we sometimes get it wrong, we work to course correct when we do and are very open to continuing to improve and grow. Please email HR at peopleops@kapost.com if you have any suggestions to help us be better. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
