Pros

The salary was for a 10-month contract, which allows for summers off contract and a 12-month contract would mean the salary (after 30 years) would be $77,628. There is an opportunity to teach extra courses at $1875 each. The 403b is 10/5 match and is mandatory, as well as social security. But starting pay is low for faculty with master's degrees, some in difficult fields. In rural area, it is still one of the better jobs. It is an opportuity to feel as though one can make a difference in the lives of others, and that one's job is meaningful.

Cons

Most of the courses are now oline and the system is very rigid about their set-up with often very little assistance in the technical aspects of course design. Teaching is a creative endeavor and often it feels as if people who are decidedly uncreative are trying to micromanage, which is a great waste of talent.

Expectation is too high for low level employees and folks are constantly walked all over.
