Pros

The job itself is interesting and being imbedded in a hospital allows for deeper relationships with referrers.

Cons

Unprofessional management - 2 of my top MD referrers were referred to as "patient poachers" by management This was documented in email! Had one great manager for 3 months , then no manager for 3 months and the next manager seemed to have little formal management experience. Liaisons are disempowered and micro managed - Its reasonable to log calls onto a CRM but because they don't know the value of a CRM it provides no value to the Liaison . They require duplication of reporting but asking for "time studies" where you have to redocument how you spend your time. Companies technology is very archaic. Report data was inaccurate They rely on faxing to conduct daily business which is often failing. I was given broken equipment , inadequate business tools and IT hadn't set up devices to be functional. They told me to start job with 80 hours of study unpaid on my own time. They don't fully reimburse for mileage nor meals while at training . You are expected to be on call on weekends and holidays and you have to ask for days off on your days off. Poor company culture- don't value employees - morale amongst liaisons was very low in my area Medicare has changed their criteria for Kindred LTAC hospitals The company demonstrated a complete lack of leadership in the lack of a planned clear strategy and the communications about this significant change. Customers andemployess were not clear and Kindred was reactionary and disorganized managing this change.

Pros

The staff in the facilities care about patient care.

Cons

If you are a sales person, avoid the position of Clinical Liaison, especially in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. There are a handful of "territories" that actually have the opportunity to make a bonus. These "territories" are actually the hospitals that are in close proximity to Kindred hospitals in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Understand what your territory is when they hire you, because it will not be for one of these close facilities and that is not ever communicated. The Dallas sales leadership continues to hire clinical liaisons for what they call the outlying territories. They are not honest in their hiring and will not tell you that your territory has bonused twice in 7 years. There are very few clinical liaisons in the Dallas/Fort Worth area that actually make bonus. The bonuses are high and uncollected revenue is charged back. The bonus is calculated on revenue alone. Revenue is dependent on the acuity of the patient and also how well the accepting physician's documentation. This was the most dishonest sales position that I ever had. You will be hired for a non-performing territory and put on a plan after 90 days. The "plan" does not end if you make quota. It picks up where you left off in the first non-performing month. Dallas/Fort Worth leadership is rotten from the top down. Be assured that you are going to be a number. In addition, the benefits are terrible. It never ceases to amaze me that health care companies have the worst employee benefits. The premiums are high and the deductibles are sky high. A major illness can bankrupt you. Also, in the clinical liaison position, you will never have a day off. There is no respect for work/life balance. You will either be on call or take care of your own accounts every weekend and in the evenings. Again, if you are a lucky one that actually makes a bonus, you might not mind. For the average liaison, you are giving up family time for free.
