Pros

Money. They have a PIL (pay in lieu of benefits program) that is pretty sweet. They pay more because they HAVE to in order to keep staff around.

Cons

Nurse to patient ratio is the biggie. I would have 5 vents and 1-2 walkie-talkies. All on numerous antibiotics and needing full care. Did I mention that we would have 2 CNAs for the ENTIRE floor. Sometimes only one. So MOST days I did ALL the care for 6-7 VERY SICK patients. I left as I wanted to protect my license. Secondly, the work morale and ethic is so bad. I would get called almost EVERY day off to come in and work. Most staff at one point were agency, which made matters exponentially worse. All in all, a hellhole, and that's why those of us who endured that place called it "HELLDRID".

Pros

good benefits and fair pay, only stayed as long as I did due to having great co workers around me.

Cons

terrible leadership at the top, backstabbing, unprofessional conduct by the administrator and people over her, no respect for the good people working there and giving their best for the patients, hidden agendas by the DO, which caused the entire building to fall apart when the good people left...

Pros

The hospital fills the gap between acute care hospitals, and the post acute care setting (i.e. nursing homes, SNFs, Rehabs, home health, etc.) The clinical care provided depends on location, and there are some very good people working there, especially in the nursing staff.

Cons

Bottom line is, Money First, People Second. I just cannot get past the mantra of a for-profit business like this. Making a buck is more important than making a difference for a patient.
