Pros

Usually, if you put effort into working as well as trying to find better positions and wait long enough you can get a better position within the company easily. You can't always be easily fired because this company's employees are all within the union and can find some kind of protection if you search through the right channels. This type of job isn't very difficult if you just pay attention.

Cons

Since this job is fairly simple its easy to get into trouble by goofing off. There is also a lot of favoritism within the company and some are allowed a lot more freedoms than others. Despite some of the positive aspects of the union if there is no participation or well informed people to enforce those rules the managers have a tendency to over step their bounds and occasionally trick you. You need to think on your feet and remember yourself and them that you have rights. Be wary of what your say as well because some will try and make your job difficult and make you quit since they can't fire you.

Pros

weekly pay, insurance, many great employees, meet wide variety of people, I am very lucky with my dept manager he is kind, considerate, fair and he is a working manager (many are not) usually able to get requsted days off, my particular pay is considered low campared to others but it certainly is not bad

Cons

it has become too corporate minded, store managers are more concerned about punishment. and following policies that are at times impossible to follow and sometimes are simply stupid. it is very difficult to provide outstanding customer service when your dept hours have been cut and you have to say the same lines over and over to people, like robots, but you do it because you dont want to get written up. That is not customer service, that is Walmart. and I hear that from customers almost daily and sadly not a thing is done about it. (at least not at my store)

Pros

They do seem to genuinely care about the customers. Most of the employees are pretty cool people. It's near impossible to get fired from this place; they gave out a seemingly endless amount of "last chances" to people who were constantly late, or didn't do their job.

Cons

They are incredibly cheap when it comes to labor. No bonuses, short hours, and you'll likely be doing the jobs of 3 different people. They expect you to be there for them on a moments notice if they need you. Favoritism runs rampant here. Don't ever go above and beyond in order to get promoted, management won't notice you. Simply do the bare minimum expected of you, and befriend someone in management. You will be promoted in no time.
