Pros

Some of the customers can be sweet, not every single one, but most of them. There are 2 managers in my store who I love, the rest... They have no business working with people.

Cons

I can understand why so many people are leaving the place; The store is ALWAYS understaffed, they will have their credit events with 20, 25, or 30% off to sign up and I will be one of the only cashiers working during the busiest times of the day, It sucks because we call for backup and someone from the floor has to come up for as long as it takes. If scheduling wasn't the problem when one person calls out everything goes straight to hell. More than a few times I have seen everyone scheduled to work that day up at checkout, no folding crew, no floor associates -- that means no one helping the customers and no one cleaning the store, which means more complaints. That means more of management talking to you about up-ing your performance over something that we have no control over. It's their fault! Management is constantly harassing you to get credit, no matter how hard you work, how fast you go, how pleasant you are, no matter how good a job you do, however many surveys you get people to take, or rewards cards the people sign up for, the only thing that matters, the only thing you MAYBE get praised for is getting credit. I say maybe because sometimes management says nothing, and their excuse? "If you want a good job, fine, but that's your job description. You wouldn't clap for me if I handled a customer's needs would you? No, it's part of my job." Me, I'm not the best seller with credit but I do get credit. I can tell you 9 out of 10 times the customer loves me. I can also say that I am one of the fastest people on cashier, I can get through double what another cashier would get through, and with less tags on the clothes. But none of that matters. Nothing matters without credit. Kohls is a team, not a family, don't get confused. Any time a customer has a complaint, we the cashiers are not supported, management gives in, there's also a 50-50 chance they throw you under the bus too. (example: "oh I'm sorry sir, Jim here is new and doesn't know what he's doing. Please take an extra 15% off." when in reality you've been there for over a year.) I have been nitpicked about every little thing, from the direction that I face when folding clothes, the way that I fold the clothes, and the way that I stand while at the register, to being accused of lying about my schedule and availability times. No water, no drinking anything in front of the customers, don't yawn, don't slouch, no hiccups, no jeans or sneakers without a doctor's note, be prepared to wear a sweater on top of your shirt in the middle of July because arms and other skin can be offensive. The scheduling is crappy, they just looove giving out these 5 hour 45 minute shifts where you only get a 15 minute break for the entire day. Plus when they schedule the cashiers by themselves you have to fight to get that break, or any break, because floor and department associates will ignore the calls to cover the breaks because they know you can't chase them down, plus even though they are not supposed to they will take their breaks during the time they're supposed to be additional. Don't get me started on talking. If we talk to a fellow co-worker, even when it's slow, closed, or when one is around, they split us up, sending us to different ends of the store or departments making us fold clothes, yelling if a customer walks up to the register while we are doing whatever it is we were told to do. I don't mind doing a good job, pay me for it, it doesn't have to be a lot as long as I can enjoy some part of the day there, but I feel like I'm punished for it. I'm being punished for trying to make driends, talking, and having a good time WHILE working, it's not like I'm sitting in the corner texting, I'm actually doing work. I see tons of places where cashiers are cashiers, and nothing else. They don't fold, they don't start on stocking the store, they're not stuffed into another area of the store to help out (unless they want to be), they're not cleaning, straightening, or any of the sort. If there are no customers, it's a slow day, no one's around, or the store is closing, they don't do a thing except eat and text, they go home the second the customers do. This place expects a lot for little money and no appreciation. Very few employees, especially the cashiers, are happy at this place. Actually... At the store I work at no one is happy, because guess what, the department and floor associates double as cashiers.

Pros

fellow workers share knowledge, fun to work with

Cons

Kohls part time associates are scheduled hours during high traffic high volume. Part time workers are given unsustainable hours and low wages/hr. Next week I am scheduled only 4 hours! How do they expect anyone to sustain themselves with a schedule like this? Part timers are underpaid and underscheduled. Gve us a sustainable income! Raise thye minimum wage to $15.00/hr immediately!

Pros

You may gain experience working for one of the large retailers in the US. You will get to know various different software vendors and gain insights into the retail technology innovations.

Cons

Constant churn, due to mis-management as well as short-term hiring. Their hiring practices are very absurd, interviews don't really go deeper to understand who they are hiring and why. The culture doesn't seem to be about building teams, but it is rather about bringing in people to do a bunch of tasks. It isn't scalable.
