Nice Retail Job

Pros

There is a separate return/ customer service area. This frees up the cashiers in the front to just do even exchanges and sells. There is someone in each department available for calls and questions.

Cons

Managers may not always back up what you say to customers even if there are strict rules that must be followed.

Pros

Discount Awareness of sales The employees have a great community (good times and bad times can bring people together) The customers are great; most people are there to have a good shopping experience and are just happy to be there. It helps that the more upbeat you are, the more upbeat the customers will be Nice to be able to tell customers "Yes, We Can" when they ask about discounts and such Very flexible. They let me take months off at a time to go to college

Cons

There is a requirement per day to get so many credit apps (per store, not per employee) and it causes a lot of unnecessary stress. Little to no opportunity to advance within the company The benefits can be inconsistent. The discount is always there but sometimes they would take away our holiday parties or they wouldn't reward us for customer compliments Can get dramatic... like all retail jobs, there tends to be the select group that work there for a long time and then there is a revolving door of 18-year olds who just want a job because their mom and dad told them to...sometimes having the younger kids there can be annoying so if you are the younger kid, don't be a drama queen, respect those who have been there, and find a mentor. It'll help you in the long run. It definitely helped me!

Pros

Plenty of opportunity for growth within the company. Many of the managers, and higher, have come form part-time, entry level positions. They always leave the door open for opportunity; that's if you're okay with relocating. Pay isn't bad. Vacation is great!

Cons

Horrible work/life balance. Kohl's does offer good vacation and tries to promote an "every other weekend off" mentality. That's of course the store manager complies with that. Company continues to become penny pinchers and oddly enough, not supporting the large stores enough. Anyone below a supervisor level should expect minimum wage.
