Pros

The company sets ridiculous expectations, but if you have a solid team it can be easier to deal with.

Cons

Management is disconnected from reality and corporate keeps raising expectations while cutting hours. Supervisors are held responsible for things completely out of their control, and managers don’t back you up. You’ll be expected to work like a machine while getting zero recognition for it. Corporate focuses on weird metrics that don’t actually help the store function better. There’s a passive-aggressive culture where management expects you to give 110% while they do the bare minimum. If you work hard, they’ll just expect more from you while others get away with slacking. Good employees burn out FAST, and the people who stay long-term either don’t care or have given up fighting the system.

Pros

Great hands-on experience in multiple areas of work from customer service/satisfaction to makeup application to merchandising… You learn a ton about the beauty industry, different high end and luxury brands and their products. Can be very fun, depending on who you’re scheduled with each day.

Cons

You work very, very hard- are expected to do your own job plus the jobs of other positions/people that the company just doesn’t want to hire/continue to fill positions for in order to save money. So they have you do it. Large theft issue, management doesn’t seem to prioritize that. Staff satisfaction also doesn’t appear to be a concern of management. Mgt. has the “if you don’t like it, there’s the door” philosophy. They also pay terribly.

Pros

Kohls used to be a great company to work for. They use to care about their employees. That has changed over the last 6 years.

Cons

Salaried employees are slaves to their jobs. Work life balance is preached, but not practiced. 70-80 hours a week. Trying to have that work life balance will be used against you and noted as unable to handle the job. Forget about trying to reach out to HR, it’s a waste of time. Better off just finding a new job. If you’re an hourly employee almost everywhere pays better than kohls. You will be better off going elsewhere .
