Pros

Salary was adequate to lure me away from another position.

Cons

Where to start with this company. Lacking in direction and leadership. This place is going down hill in light of the current economy. Very unrealistic/ unobtainable expectations. Not enough staff and will not hire or provide hours to get the jobs done. In my area Kohl's will not even compensate the needed sales associates, cashiers etc. adequately so all the staff leaves for the nearby stores that pay at least $1+ more an hour. Even after they reviewed this and found the huge gap in pay from the competition refused to make any adjustments. So this makes it difficult to obtain and maintain assoc. Upper management constantly changing and implementing new policies for anything and everything. Seems that the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing. Constant e-mails, confrence calls and requests for info(to be written as a report/plan ) to five different disciplines wanting the same info. Such a time waster sitting on a cc listening to the regional vp blab about some policy/thought they will be changing in several days. In the meantime there is not enough staff and ads need to be set, there are not enough cashiers and a whole hoard of customers wanting to be checked out, clothes thrown all over the store and more things occuring than staff in the store to even physically handle. In the meantime when I try to pin down my general manager with a concrete idea of how to get their next unrealistic expectation done. The only great pearl of wisdom he can ever come up with is "whatever it takes to get the job done". Good grief! This sounds like a complete vent at this point and it is I'm so physically exhausted at this point, I'm working 16 hours a day often 6 days a week. This job is not worth it! Needless to say I'm looking for another job, I will gladly accept less pay at the next job if that is what it takes just to get out of this place!

Pros

** Great pay once you become a store manager ** You receive a high level or respect & admiration from friends & family when you tell them you work here ** 4 weeks vacation right off the bat (but there's a catch)

Cons

** Horrific work-life balance... upper management says that they want you to have a work-life balance, but that's practically impossible if you work in "the ghetto" ** Corporate provides very little payroll to stores... there is one employee per every 40 customers ** Stores in "ghetto" areas are nearly impossible to manage because corporate assumes that EVERY store in the company is like one based out of Wisconsin. ** You're just a number ** Regional management and above treat store salaried managers like crap, but they expect us to kiss the ground our employees walk on ** Unrealistic corporate expectations ** Store management has very little control over employee morale. ** Horrific turnover amongst salaried managers ** Training at all levels sucks

Pros

Employee discount...? Other than that, having a hard time thinking of anything LOL

Cons

Workload is unrealistic and ridiculous, especially for floor associates. Attending to dressing rooms, "recovering" departments, and all the other duties they push on you in very limited amount of time, and almost impossible for one person to accomplish. I lost 10 pounds working here because of the constant running around, usually in a panic with 1 million things to do. Not to mention they never have enough cashiers, and we were expected to run to the cash register every time needed. End up being stuck on registers for 3 hours, and your supervisor wonders why your department is a mess. Management extremely pushy, and act like they look down on you. Very impersonal staff, especially management. Supervisors are under pressure, and they return the pressure onto you. The pay is a joke for the amount of workload and the expectations. Minimum wage, without much of a raise in the future. The turnover rate is high for a reason: It's a very unpleasant job, and the pay doesn't match up with the work. I dreaded going into work everyday, and honestly, the job stressed me out. Not a pleasant experience, and never again is all I can say.
