Pros

Good union that actually works to protect employees. Some people view the dues as wasted money, but when the administration targets you, you will definitely appreciate having strong individuals who will fight on your behalf. The faculty in and of themselves are great to work with. Support staff is awesome.

Cons

HR runs the place with faculty having to deal with people who have failed out of corporate HR departments and treat everyone like line workers. If they decide to "investigate" you, prepare to resign as these so-called investigations are merely kangaroo-court proceedings designed to humiliate the individual who probably has done nothing wrong intentionally. The adjunct/full-time caste system breaks this place. With anywhere between 80-90% of people being part-time, it is a wonder the college is still able to function. Adjunct faculty commit their time to the college but in return have no real commitment from the college so one semester you might have a full load and the next you're on food stamps and wondering where your rent money is going to come from. And even if you get a full load, you might still be bumped by a full-time instructor who needs to take your class to fulfill their load obligations. On top of that HR recently placed a 28 hour hard cap on all part-time employees, in violation of the faculty contract, citing the Affordable Care Act. Every hour you work has to either be assigned, such as teaching a course, or otherwise approved. you are unable to pick up hours on the fly doing things like attending Workplace policies change on the fly and the only way you are informed about it is when you are being disciplined by your administrator or HR.

Pros

Great leadership in my department. Renewed focus on career enrichment and continuing education. Lots of opportunities for employees to engage and network within the organization.

Cons

Pay is average, not always room for promotion.
