nice views. some people were nice. close to decent campus food.

Below average pay for the bay area; below mid-grade pay for the job level; when i asked about this I was told that it's so I can "grow into the job" and that nobody else in my department was above that level, so to raise me up they would have to raise everyone. Disgruntled, institutionalized, adversarial peers; bloated bureaucratic management; caste system-like attitude that is supported throughout the entire organization. there is an Ombudsman to file complaints, but it is generally known that if you do you will be ostracized and/or terminated. And i saw more than one person forced out before they retired so the Lab didn't have to pay benefits. One of my top five worst jobs ever.

Cons

If you are not working in research there is a good chance that you will not be gaining skills needed to grow in your profession. As an operations professional I constantly feel as if there is potential to improve the organization but because my job is not research no one invests in me or the work that I do.
