Pros

Unfortunately, I can’t think of one.

Cons

1. Odd Vibe and Zero Culture: This is the only place I’ve worked in my career where no one wants to collaborate, everyone works in a silo, there’s an extreme lack of communication between teams, there is no passion for the brands and people’s unhappiness is demonstrated in the poor quality of work being produced. 2. Toxic Leadership: -Leadership consists of inflated egos with little industry experience to justify their titles. -Manager/s pit team members against one another, creating a hostile working environment. -Tone deaf and unaware of acts of ageism and discrimination towards working mothers -Micromanagement and lack of trust between Managment and sellers -Aggressive and bully-like management style - leading by instilling fear. 3. Horrible pay, under market value and no room for career growth 4. No vision. There are too many brands and no clear direction on what to focus on. 5. Process-heavy, inhibiting people from doing their jobs 6. Extremely high turnover. 7. DEI not authentic or actionable. There are just mandatory online courses that take hours of employee's time with no action items to follow.

As you are a former employee, it sounds like the time you spent here posed challenges for you. We hope that you addressed and shared these concerns with your manager, your people (HR) business partner, or anyone else in a position to work for solutions. Our engagement surveys, which are confidential and run yearly, give us constructive feedback and insights from our employees. While we aren’t able to know what part of the business you worked in, our Q4 2022 engagement survey indicates that across the board, our scores in culture, leadership, and communication are positioned well for a midsize company. After each survey, we articulate - along with leaders of each business who are also responsible for articulating their goals post-survey - what areas we are looking to improve in. We are committed to action everyday at Leaf Group and work closely with leaders on their 2023 people strategies and on the experiences of our people across the organization. Our DEI efforts are a work in progress and take collaboration as a company. The online training you mentioned is just one part of our holistic strategy. We consistently solicit feedback and participation from everyone within the company so we can focus on the most impactful priorities, and continuously grow and learn - and adapt - from the solutions we try. Leaf Group does not condone or support ageism, discrimination, or bullying management tactics of any kind and looks for employees to speak up and share their feedback with the People Team.

Pros

Good salary, and flexibility. And there is a lot of challenging projects where you can learn new tools and technologies.

Cons

you get called a lot during midnight.

Pros

A handful of nice people (who end up leaving).

Cons

CEO sets the tone for a toxic culture that breeds, enables, and empowers inexperienced managers with irrationally inflated egos. People often seem to be walking on eggshells - there is an overarching sense of competitiveness and a lack of trust among the employees that creates an 'out for themselves' mentality (a la 'Survivor'). The brands in the portfolio lack a compelling, cohesive story, and are functionally disjointed across different platforms which makes logistics challenging. Management has unrealistic expectations. Operationally over-processed and their tech stack is extremely inefficient consisting of about 10-15 different types of software that could be consolidated if anyone were open to learning about other alternatives. Lots of "We have always done it this way. New ideas are not welcome" Finally, while they claim to be a compassionate company with a strong commitment to DEI and go through the motions at the high level, it seems their motivation is optics, because they don't seem to sincerely practice what they preach on a more individual level.

Thank you for sharing your candid feedback about your experience at Leaf Group. We strive to support every employee in having a positive experience at work and are disappointed to hear that this was your experience. There are a lot of points to your feedback, so we wanted to follow up on just a few. Our engagement surveys, which are confidential and run yearly, give us constructive feedback from our employees. While we aren’t able to know what part of the business you worked in, we can say that scores in culture, leadership, and communication are fairly good for a midsize company. After each survey, we do articulate - along with leaders of each business who are also responsible for articulating their goals post-survey - what areas we are looking to improve in. We are always looking for ways to upskill manager training, solicit innovation, and improve our DEI efforts - which will not be a quick journey.
