Overall lack of leadership across the organization resulted in a lot of misalignment between departments, and often, unclear priorities within the engineering department as a whole. A lot of internal promotion of individuals into leadership roles based on their company tenure as opposed to their experience. This, coupled with a complete lack of support from the organization for first time people managers, lead to many of the problems at the leadership level. General lack of any cohesive, company wide, performance management and career progression structure.

As per the history of this company, I was one of the many employees affected by the layoffs. This came after first being told that we had secured $100 million for funding… We were consistently led on that our jobs were safe and vital to the business. Not to mention the distasteful statement said in the last round of layoffs, “We decided to lay off these employees before Christmas so these employees can have the support of their families.”Upon further reading, our CEO did the same at his previous position with WeWork. Lay off a majority of the company, and secure yourself a nice couple of million by stepping down. No representation for minorities, and disrespectful to the cannabis industry as a whole by using it as a “get rich quick” scheme.
