Blooming from start-up into an organization

Pros

Overall, It's a great place work at for someone seeking learning and growth. - Fast paced unlike log jammed large political organizations - Transparent in decision making; you may not be part of the decision making but you'll know why the decision was made - Decisive when benefits clearly communicated - Autonomy - ownership and responsibility are well pegged - Growth minded business; aggressive growth goals and alignment - Collaborative and cross functional - A group of very talented fun people - A great taste of what it is like to work in a fast growing tech + product organization

Cons

The biggest con is the hangover of immature culture from being a start-up like but things are surely changing Samplers: - everyone announcing they are running late or planning to make up for being late on a central office Slack channel; an unsaid implicit expectation from the founders that everyone will have the same in-time / out-time as them - optics of being at work more important than actual work; aversion towards remote work even though most companies are moving in the opposite direction - too many kudos and exclamation points for little things on Slack channels - people routinely discussing work on weekend on slack channels and an expectation to be responsive; this works with a 30 person startup. - every passing request from the exec team being a fire drill - decision making concentrated in power centers - importance of few persons is overrated compromising leadership development and balanced representation of views across the company - too much diversification too fast instead of on consolidating on existing business lines - everyone having an opinion without prior subject matter experience

Pros

There's a new CEO, and he's fired a lot of VPs, Directors, and Managers. Since there are so many incompetent decision makers, he managed to get rid of a lot of them by default. Even a blind squirrel gets a nut once in awhile. Some of the worst offenders remain, though, caveat emptor.

Cons

Whether the confidently incorrect assertions of the "Chief Strategy Officer", the misguided or absent vision of the CTO, the inability to decide which customers to focus on (hint: how about all of them?) on the part of Product leadership, or the woeful inability to pick a strategic decision and stick with it, the evidence is clear that this company is dead, they just don't know it yet.
