Pros

The work-life balance at LegalZoom is exceptional; I have the flexibility to choose my own work hours. With a diverse workforce spanning the globe, accommodating different time zones is not just accepted but encouraged. This flexibility is particularly advantageous for individuals with parenting responsibilities or daytime hobbies. The key expectation is to be available for crucial meetings and meet a minimum of about 6 hours, allowing for adaptable scheduling. In terms of compensation, LegalZoom is on par with the average of renowned tech giants (FAANG). The pivotal factor in ensuring fair compensation lies in having a supportive manager advocating for your interests, aligning your earnings with industry benchmarks. LegalZoom distinguishes itself by being at the forefront of technology, departing from outdated tech stacks. Unlike companies entrenched in legacy code, LegalZoom actively invests in modernizing systems to prepare for the next era of technology. While this may be considered a downside by some, especially those fond of on-site meetings or company gatherings like holiday parties, it allows for a more independent work style. Remarkably, LegalZoom offers a comprehensive benefits package, enabling employees to expense work-related equipment, internet bills, and phone bills, adding to the overall appeal of working here. An exceptional aspect of LegalZoom's culture is that everyone, including managers and directors, is actively involved in coding. This is a departure from experiences in other companies where managers might lack strong engineering skills. LegalZoom stands out in maintaining a team where coding proficiency is valued at every level.

Cons

Managers at LegalZoom appear to lack comprehensive training, often receiving their titles more as a reflection of their compensation rather than their qualifications. It's evident that certain engineers with ostensibly higher titles may possess fewer skills and less experience compared to their counterparts with lower titles. To enhance overall organizational efficiency, LegalZoom should strive for a more balanced and merit-based approach to title assignments. Furthermore, the existing compensation range at LegalZoom is notably wide, leading to the dissemination of salary information among employees. This sharing of compensation details can have a demotivating effect on the workforce. Addressing this issue by establishing a more transparent and equitable compensation structure would contribute to fostering a positive and motivated work environment.

Pros

LZ Tax is an amazing place to work. There are great things happening here every day. The people are awesome. You will make a lot of friends really fast. Working fully remote is fantastic. It's a collaborative culture. One of my favorite things is working directly with clients every day. I never feel micro managed. I like that it's results oriented. I would definitely recommend LZ Tax to fellow tax professionals!

Cons

Sometimes there can be challenging clients to work with, although managers are very supportive and knowledgeable.

Pros

LegalZoom has all the perks of a large company but the atmosphere of a dynamic and close-knit startup. Specifically, I work within the LZ Tax department, and unlike most companies I have worked for, we don't spend all day simply preparing or reviewing tax returns. Our tax experts are on the phone with clients and getting to know them almost from day one at the firm. Our clientele are hard-working, down-to-earth individuals looking to get their new businesses off the ground and are always highly appreciative of the work we do and the advice we provide, which is specifically catered to each business owner's unique situation. Unlike some companies that have been doing the same thing for decades, management is very in tuned and open to change based on feedback, and opinions are very much heard, especially from new hires who may offer a new perspective. We are always looking to improve the experience for both our clients and tax experts. Lastly, LegalZoom cares greatly about work-life balance, the company is fully remote, there is plenty of PTO provided each year among plenty of other benefits, and management provides plenty of continuing education opportunities for its staff to ensure we are constantly learning and developing our tax knowledge. I feel that the company is truly invested in me. My efforts are seen and appreciated at this company. I genuinely enjoy working at LegalZoom and could see myself working here indefinitely.

Cons

At times the departments can be a bit siloed, and communication between departments can be difficult especially in a fully remote-first environment. But this rarely impacts our day-to-day activities.
