Pros

The university holds their mission statement very close in everything they do. This true for decisions made at every level and the interviewing process. This is a good and welcoming approach and is likely one of the reasons they're such a great university. Everyone is very friendly, including the students. I felt like I was a part of a family there. They also like to feed employees and staff with periodic events to show appreciation or support various groups or causes.

Cons

Don't expect any raises or career growth. The university sticks to a 1-2% raise every year for every employee universally. Anything beyond that is extremely rare. There is also very little hierarchy in staff positions, so moving up the career ladder is not possible either. While the university loves to employ their own graduates or move staff into other positions when openings do occur, I've seen most of the upper-;level positions become filled with outsiders. There is nothing wrong with that and most of these positions need the right person for the job. However, the impression is that little value or consideration is given to existing candidates. Also, the politics involved in day-to-day work are tedious. Some people hold themselves too high to be considerate or allow for the job to be done as best as it could be, faculty tend to procrastinate as badly as their students, and committees seem to exist for the sake of having committees.
