It used to be good

Pros

The people, environment and benefits were the best things about Lexmark. Worked with very talented people who wanted to drive good products. After being taken over by Kofax, all of what was good about working there was extinguished.

Cons

Kofax CEO drove away good employees and held the door open for everyone else to walk out. It was hard to be productive when the CEO tells you there is no incentive, just be grateful you have a job. The business hasn't been stabl in years.

Pros

Great team in Lenexa office; unlimited PTO; flexible work schedules

Cons

Software CEO that took over in 2015 is an ego maniac - killed off the profitable products in exchange for his legacy products. Went from leader quadrant in Forrestor, Gartner to nowhere to be found in 1 year with him at the helm.

Pros

Lexmark has great benefits including unlimited vacation from day 1, flextime, great work/life balance, and a nice on site fitness center. It is located in a beautiful area of the country. The people at Lexmark are intelligent and hard working. Software development is done in agile teams which is wonderful for learning new skills and leaning on everyone's strengths to make the best product possible. Lexmark embraces newer technologies where it can.

Cons

One word: Layoffs. In my time here Lexmark has had a layoff that affected developers about every year. Not always the same departments are on the block, but layoffs are frequent and there is no fat left. With the printer business shrinking, Lexmark has a survival of the fittest vibe to it and has since I joined. The formally Perceptive Software side is not much better with the recent change in management. The other downside is the location in Lexington, KY. When layoffs hit, most people look to Louisville or Cincinnati for jobs as there is just not a lot here. I would NOT recommend relocating to Lexmark or assuming that you will make it past 5 years.
