Pros

The health benefits here are excellent.

Cons

As others have noted, reviews on Glassdoor from current employees are positively skewed, since they are solicited to write positive reviews. Any concerns or frustrations are directed offline as employees are encouraged to take these to their leader. However, this sets the employee up to fail, as they are then labeled as another disgruntled employee or troublemaker. I witnessed retaliatory behavior from leadership in response to this, and many employees are eventually forced out due to “performance issues”. In this way, the organization has progressively instilled (directly or indirectly) a culture in which employees cannot be fully honest (even in surveys/platforms in which responses are intended to be “anonymous”) without fear of retaliation, which has led to highly curved positive results. This is deeply concerning, as the organization is mis-represented by the awards they win, and executive leadership has no accurate pulse on how their employees truly feel. This type of behavior also personally impacted me under my leadership. Feedback I received was heavily biased and had nothing to do with my performance as an employee. My leader wanted me to be more like him/her, not more like Jesus, who seems to have been lost in the day-to-day operations of this place. When I escalated my concerns about his/her leadership, I was written off; from that point, each day became a more hostile work experience than the prior, as I was subjected to gaslighting, scare tactics/empty threats and passive-aggressive behaviors. I lived through frequent anxiety and/or depression (conditions I’d never experienced prior to this job), and I consistently dreaded going to work. As others here have said, this job starts out wonderful--the opportunity to work for your beloved church home feels like a dream come true. Eventually, however, countless employees leave because problems aren’t addressed, expectations are unclear, and people get burnt out because they feel they are expendable (this belief is affirmed when hearing things like “Don’t let the door hit you on your way out” and “I could do this with only 100 of you”). Even though I required a period of un-learning following my employment at Life.Church, I am now truly thriving and am so glad I made the decision to leave...however, it does sadden me to know that others are going through similar treatment and that nothing has changed since I left.

Pros

Global reach (if you care about that).

Cons

You will slowly lose your identity as an individual, all in the name of the ministry. Be prepared to not only give your all to your job, but also your entire family spending all weekends and holidays serving at church. Eventually you'll realize that people are just coming to a feel-good experience without any opportunity to actually go deep in their faith. And you are just a cog in that system. Life.Church is really good at marketing, and their value statements are catchy. But the church has grown to a point that they don't really even live those values anymore. Sure, at first there's the honeymoon phase. But in the end, you realize that being on staff there is pretty much like being in a cult. You are controlled by a charismatic leader that forces you to give your whole life to the org, you are required to give away 10% of your below-market paycheck back to the leader (who is a multi-millionaire), and if you speak out against them you will be shunned and silenced.

Thank you for sharing your experience. You're right: The work we're called to do is challenging! At Life.Church, we firmly believe it is also the most significant work that can be done here on Earth. We recognize the importance of stewarding our time, energy, and resources well, and we are always trying to get better at making sure that the time you spend outside the office is as fruitful and fulfilling as the time you get to invest at work. The reason numbers are important here at Life.Church is because we see every number as a person with a unique story that matters to God. We definitely don't have it all down yet, and if you would like to provide feedback on how we can improve, please email hr@life.church.

Pros

-Incredible Culture and Values -Good Benefits and Learning Oppurtunities

Cons

Note that the reviews on here are heavily skewed positive, and that is because the organization encourages employees to write only positive reviews. If you have a negative view or concern about the organization, they would rather you not share that and instead talk to your leader so they can be "addressed." Sadly, no addressing happens other than labeling you as a troublemaker and just another disgruntled employee that can't “cut it.”. Starting a job here begins as a dream come true. Everything you wanted in a job seems to become a reality instantly. However, that quickly fades as you learn the way things run. This has to be the most clicky and uncivil workplaces that I have ever worked. As stated in other reviews, Life.Church demands a lot of its employees, and that can't be said enough. A lot is required of you, and you quickly will become worn out, burnt out, and drained. Life.Church is a nightmare in regards to HR policies. I have lost count of the examples of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and other abusive behavior that I encountered. This place is a textbook definition of a hostile work environment if you happen to get on the bad side of someone with influence over others. Retaliation is enormous here, so be careful what you say and who you say it to. You can't speak up based on what you know to be legally protected because this is a church organization, so many state and federal workplace laws don't apply. The workplace environment here is severely inappropriate, and there are no boundaries between your personal life and your professional life. I even brought concerns to the Group Leader of HR, and she diminished my issues, and then I was the one that got punished in the long run. Remember what I said about retaliation? The way situations are handled from an HR perspective goes against many state and federal workplace laws. Just know that this place can be great, but it can also be an inappropriate and uncivil workplace environment, and you will have no real protection legally.
