Dying company.

Pros

This is only a good place to work if you're not qualified to work anywhere else. Pay was good for an entry level job. Definitely working as a photographer takes some physical stamina and mental creativity. I was the main photographer at my studio, and I worked 10-12 hour days during Christmas with a half hour break halfway through. Sales isn't much better, but it's good preparation for other sales jobs.

Cons

Lifetouch is stuck and dying. In a global world where anyone can learn to take decent pictures of their kids with some free online courses, they hire completely unqualified photographers and try to force people to buy more than they can afford. I had previous studio experience. There were people in my training classes who took 15 minutes (no exaggeration) to figure out how to click the button to take a photo. Their target market is people who are bad at math. This is not to neglect piss-poor upper management, aggressive sales goals with no basis in reality, and a total lack of a support network for training and gear maintenance. Our sales goals were based on the previous year's numbers + 10%. Completely neglecting that they are in a dying industry where they control over 75% of studio photography, or that the previous year they had an influx in business from 3 of their competitors going bankrupt. Our district manager was nightmarish, and would insist we stay over unpaid to pull sessions to meet goal, or else we would be written up and eventually fired.
