Pros

Great clinical experience and training to help you get your career started. The therapists there are wonderful to work with and provide a plethora of knowledge.

Cons

Where to start: First, you have to sign a "Gag order". So you are not allowed to say anything negative about the company. That is why you probably don't see a lot of negative reviews. The CEO takes an approach that if you are not a doctor you are not smart enough for leadership positions. It doesn't matter if you have more experience than others or are a better therapist. You are paid below marketplace and instead of getting raises that even meet cost of living, they think having snacks or office parties are good enough compensation. There is frequent change in policies without input from staff. These changes occur without notice. This all leads to high turnover. This is why they make you sign a two year commitment that requires you to pay them if you leave in under two years (which many people leave anyways).

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review about your experience at Light On Anxiety. We appreciate your positive comments regarding the clinical experience and training at LOA and we agree that we have a wonderful clinical team of which we are very proud. We also want to take a moment to respond to the concerns you raised about working at LOA. We were most surprised at the notion that we do not value clinicians that are not doctors. In fact, the vast majority of our clinical staff are not doctors and we value the contributions of all of our clinicians. We are very proud of the wonderful and life changing results that our therapists achieve for our patients and we continually invest in their growth and development. We have many master level therapists leading and coaching small groups and are continuously looking for ways to offer rewarding career development. With respect to compensation, we endeavor to be aligned and competitive with the market, as well as incentivize quality care and the productivity of our clinicians. To support this, we consistently benchmark our compensation against that of the market and have recently modified our compensation practices in a manner that we hope will provide attractive opportunities for clinicians while aligning them with our mutual goal of reaching as many patients in need as possible. Given the recent response from new candidates, we are encouraged that we are headed in the right direction. As for your comments regarding our frequent changes in policy, we acknowledge that as a rapidly growing organization focused on providing both the best care we can for our clients and an attractive work environment for our clinicians, we do evolve our policies to try to be the best in the industry. While we don’t always get our updated policies perfect, we are proud of our record of growth and evolution and have demonstrated a record of inviting and integrating feedback. While we are disappointed that you believe we have a "gag order" at LOA, we always encourage and welcome feedback that is constructive and intended to make us better as an organization. Finally, we would like to address the comment regarding the two year commitment we ask for from clinicians. We spend significant time and resources on training, coaching, and continuing education for our clinicians, including grand rounds, multiple small group supervisions, and a clinical training institute. We are thrilled to be able to provide these opportunities for our clinicians, and we feel it is reasonable to ask for a two year commitment from our clinicians so that training can be used for the benefit of our patients. We are sorry that you feel that this is in some way unfair. We understand that there are many opportunities for clinicians in today's environment, where the demand for mental health services far outpaces the available capacity, and we know that the only way to be successful is to attract, retain and develop the very best clinicians we can. We are disappointed whenever we lose a clinician and will continue to work to improve the retention and growth of our team. LOA has a mission of providing the highest quality care and to reach as many patients in need as possible. We do this by having a team of wonderful, well trained and respected clinicians, accepting insurance, and offering readily available and broad appointment availability to our patients. Providing this collection of offerings is not always easy, but we are committed to this effort and can only achieve it with a team of happy and engaged employees. We will take your feedback and continue to work toward this goal every day. Finally, we want to let you know that you can feel free to discuss any of the matters you posted on Glassdoor with our leadership. We would welcome the opportunity to discuss it. - LOA Team

Only work here if you are a clinician

Pros

The clinical staff at LOA is wonderful and should be paid far more than what they get paid. Clinicians have a great culture here and the work they do can be easily seen thru the progress of their patients.

Cons

The administrative staff is incredibly disorganized and roles are not clearly defined. They will NOT give you a firm job title, which means you can be tasked for things you had no idea you were supposed to be doing. You will spend a majority of your time in "meetings" which have no use and simply act as an echo chamber for higher-ups. The policies put in place are always changing--whether that is PTO, benefits, retirement, or other compensation. In addition, changes to policies are not always advertised and if you do not do your own due diligence, you will not notice that they are reducing your benefits. The CEO has goals of becoming a large company but does not take any feedback on how to improve the business. You will repeatedly be asked to do "special projects" by the CEO and then are on your own for guidance and follow-up. LOA's method of career growth is another way of saying changing job title to compensate for the revolving door of administrative employees.

Pros

The coworkers who I could confide in and commiserate with.

Cons

Light On Anxiety grossly underpays their employees yet claims they pay above market value. All of the staff cannot wait to leave after their 2 year contract and counts down the days (LOA makes you stay for 2 years or else you have to pay them thousands of dollars to get out of your contract). LOA specifically wants to hire new/young graduates so they can purposely underpay them since they don't know any better, which the CEO admitted herself. CEO is horribly disorganized and unprofessional, leading many to avoid going to her for issues or supervision.

1. Light On Anxiety strives to offer comp packages in line with market trends. The fact that we have so many wonderful new employees joining LOA and selecting our comp package over external offers tells me we're doing a pretty good job with this goal but we will continue to monitor and revise on an ongoing basis. 2. Light On Anxiety’s model is to select high caliber candidates with tons of potential and invite them to join our 2 year Clinical Training Institute. I do prefer hiring clinicians who have yet to be exposed to practice styles that would conflict with our action oriented CBT based therapeutic style and have found it to be more difficult to “unlearn” certain clinical habits than to train new clinicians on Light On Anxiety’s unique treatment approach. 3. LOA hires associate therapists to join our 2 year Clinical Training Institute. This training program is resource intensive, including 2 hours of supervision, 2 additional hours of clinical training and support each week as well as the provision of many other proprietary training resources. The actual cost of a new clinician participating in this program is well above the repayment amount we ask of those who choose to leave prior to completing the 2 year program. We do of course understand life happens and if there are special circumstances causing an employee to need to leave LOA prior to the completion of their 2 year contract we always consider each situation on a case by case basis. 4. As for your comment regarding me being “horribly disorganized and unprofessional”, I am going to take in what I can from this feedback. As a mom of 3 children, I am frequently pulled in many directions, especially during the pandemic and still in post pandemic life, and in no way do I want LOA employees to bear the burden of my work/life balance challenges. I am not quite sure of the solution but I am going to commit to some measurable goals in these important areas. Thank you for taking the time to post this review. I invite you to contact me directly to further discuss. Dr. Debra Kissen CEO Light On Anxiety
