Lighthouse Credit Union is a mess

Pros

There are too few to even consider.

Cons

My experience with Lighthouse Credit Union raised serious concerns about how the organization is being run. There is no clear vision, the organization spends freely without discipline. Initiatives are launched with visibility and investment, but without the follow-through or alignment needed to deliver value. There was an attempt to adopt more modern agile delivery practices, but it was never given a real chance to mature. Instead of improving or adapting, leadership abandoned the effort altogether. What followed made things worse. The team supporting that work was laid off, and the organization doubled down in the opposite direction — leaning harder into rigid, top-down project management approaches and bringing in more traditional waterfall roles. Less than a week after laying off the the leader responsible for delivery and his team, the organization posted a new project manager role. That decision speaks for itself. There is also very little cooperation between departments. Teams operate in silos, and senior leadership does not appear aligned. In some cases, it feels like leaders are actively working against each other rather than toward shared goals. There are good people doing their best within the organization, but they are working in a system that makes it difficult to succeed. Without major changes in leadership alignment, accountability, and focus, it is hard to see meaningful improvement. Based on this experience, I would not recommend Lighthouse Credit Union.

Leadership in an echo chamber

Pros

There are great people who work hard here and deserve better. This CU had true potential with strong ties to the local community before they were erased, both in name and in spirit.

Cons

The tone at the top of this company has steadily deteriorated, creating significant challenges across the organization. There is a growing perception that the C-suite has fostered an environment where misogyny is not just tolerated but seemingly reinforced through decisions, communication styles, and a lack of accountability. Concerns raised by employees—especially women—are frequently seen as dismissed or minimized, creating a culture where many no longer feel respected, heard, or safe to contribute fully. When women do speak up or assert themselves they may face disproportionate scrutiny, often not appearing to receive the same level of respect or consideration as their male counterparts.
Compounding this is the CEO’s unpredictable leadership approach. Strategic direction shifts constantly, priorities are unclear, and decisions are reactive rather than thoughtful. Each new executive hire seems to reset progress, introducing sweeping changes without understanding the business, leading to repeated cycles of disruption and lost momentum. As soon as things seem they might stabilize, instead we face another year of confusion and wasted effort. The impact on morale is severe. Teams are burned out, disengaged, and increasingly distrustful of leadership. There’s a pervasive sense that no matter how hard employees work, their efforts can be undone overnight by another abrupt shift or leadership misstep. Employee wellness has taken a clear hit, with stress and frustration becoming the norm rather than the exception. The feeling of constant chaos has caused serious concerns for mental and physical health.
Every day seems to bring a new issue—whether it’s a poorly communicated company email, a sudden restructuring, or another leadership change that creates more instability. Instead of building value, the current trajectory is eroding it, both culturally and operationally. Without meaningful changes at the leadership level, it’s difficult to see how the company can retain talent or rebuild trust.

Promising CU with no direction

Pros

Worker peers are very positive and do their best with what they have. They are also always very helpful when you need help. Pay is solid.

Cons

There is a clear lack of direction from the top, constant changing direction, department realignment, and promotion of toxic leaders. Every year we seem to have a new executive and 're-alignment'. Department heads are more interested in their next new idea instead of fixing things for the staff and Members.
