Pros

Connecting with the kids. Seeings them improve and grow more confident in themselves.

Cons

This company will cut your wages one week and in the next nearly double your workload, all because corporate made poor financial decisions. In the center I work at, most of our children are severely special needs, meaning that I and the rest of the staff basically do the same work as special ed. teachers, yet we're not officially trained to do such work and are paid a mere fraction of what a special ed. teacher makes. I'm a hard worker. I know it's easy to say that, but I've really been giving my all to this company. I don't believe in giving less than 110%, and if I did give less I'd feel guilty (that's just a personal flaw). My point in bringing this up is that, no matter what I do, no matter how much I give, no matter how exhausted and empty I feel at the end of the day, it's NEVER enough for this company. They will ALWAYS demand more from you, even when you're running on empty. And it's not because they love the children so much. No. This is for-profit education. Their priority (no matter how well they mask it) is making money. They exploit desperate parents of special needs kids, promising these parents revolutionary change for absurd prices (over $120 an hour for multiple hours per day). And, honestly, sometimes our program does work, and it works well. But it's not meant for the severe children that I teach day in and day out. We're bending over backwards for these kids because we've grown to really care for them, trying to make the program work as best we can. I see it in all of my co-workers. Every single one of them. We CARE about these kids. This company, however, doesn't seem to care about us. When they do offer us rewards for our work, the rewards are, at best, meager. Oh, and here's the kicker: they won't let you put them as a reference or write you a recommendation letter.

Pros

THE KIDS Basically the main/only saving grace. You can fall real quick for the kiddos. They are fun and hilarious, hardworking even when they are little rascals or test your patience. It is very rewarding to see the progress in the students and see tangible results for the work. My personal center is also pretty good. I enjoy most of my co workers and feel like we really try to embody all of the great things about LBLP even though corporate doesn't foster the motivation necessary to do so. Additionally, if you are a college student or recent grad looking for a gig to get you some money, then try this out. It can be really fun and for a temporary job the pay is decent-ish. Summer is the busy season so try it out. But don't expect to be here long term because you will end up doing full time work for part time benefits and there seems to be little room for career advancement.

Cons

Oh boy, where to start... Well the main point of this review is that corporate sucks, and truly they do. Recently the company cut the pay and salary of all employees, a thing that sometimes happens in places of work. But how they did it was ATROCIOUS. They sent out an email on a Thursday past 5pm on a 3 day holiday weekend announcing the pay cut, a pay cut that was to start IMMEDIATELY on Monday. So we come into work on Monday and find out that day that our pay it getting cut. WHAT!??! How on Earth do they think it is good practice or common decency to give your employees virtually NO NOTICE of such an action. Our bosses tried their best to tell us nicely, as it affected them as well and they didn't know either. I CANNOT believe corporate would do that to their employees. They should have given AT LEAST a full pay period of notice. But no. So in addition to there being no incentives for the holidays, no bonuses or raises, we get a nice HAPPY HOLIDAYS HERES A PAYCUT HOHOHO. It's ridiculous. I'm no finance or business person but its hard for me to believe that they only way they could solve their financial problems is by cutting employee pay. The very people on the ground who make the magic happen. 2. It's a program that I believe works and I get that it's a business but it's just very inaccessible because of the cost to parents and students. It is extremely expensive to have intensive instruction here like $130 an hour or somewhere around there. And I WOUND NOT propose an increase in rate on parents to solve the financial issue but my dream is that one day LBLP can reach out to kids who don't come from wealthy families or have had to fight many years through the school district to get them to cover the cost. 3. SCHEDULING....it's a mess. You get your schedule on Friday for the next week. You have to put in at least two weeks ahead for any requested time off. Sometimes you don't even hear back if you get that time off or not. You have to go ask and maybe you'll hear the "Oh we have students on the grid for you" and then you gotta say "oh well maybe you should have seen my request and NOT PUT STUDENTS ON THE GRID FOR ME". And for a part time worker you're expected to be more flexible than Elasta-girl. Your schedule can change on the hour, which is fine if you're at work. What's not fine is when hours are added without asking (maybe I planned a doctor appointment during this Wednesday afternoon I thought I would have free). Nope you are a part time employee expected to give them all the hours of your day. PART TIME EMPLOYEE AND PART TIME BENEFITS. Maybe if there were more incentives then I could be a little more flexible. 4. BURNOUT - this job is exhausting and you are worked for every ounce. It is only worth it for the kids but I AM BURNT OUT. My sessions are not as good as they could be and I just feel like my longevity as an employee is not fostered. 5. I don't know really how to address this but a feeling I get around this company is FAKENESS. I don't know exactly what it is but the culture around here seems so fake. Like FAKE happy, FAKE everything is great, FAKE awesomeness.....I don't know how else to put it but its a vibe and everything just seems fake on the surface (corporate wise). 6. Wacky Wednesday themes....see below
