Pros

Students come from all ages, backgrounds, and personalities. There are those that clearly need more support, and others that simply need some mild remediation. Regardless, some kids benefitted and they were amazing to work with.

Cons

- The program charges parents five-figure amounts for a six-week summer program, and more for their private school curriculum. It does not reflect in the wages. There are no bonuses, and there's a merit wage increase a year capped at 3% (+50-60 cents hardly adjusts for inflation). - There is a lot of emotional labor in this job. None of the training covers that, and much of "behavioral management" entails scoreboards on a jamboard. - Intensity: Once you clock in, your time is allocated to documenting/digital paperwork/student management to the minute, frequently multi-tasking. You may be assigned a new student at the last minute with three minutes to familiarize yourself with the material. - The turnover rate is very high and has only gotten higher. The staff I was hired into were welcoming and such interesting people. These past few years, everyone has changed faces and I hardly get to know a fellow clinician despite being in regular contact before they leave.

Thank you for sharing your experience with Lindamood-Bell. We understand that working on the instruction team can be demanding, with various responsibilities. We strive to provide our employees with the time and resources they need to succeed. Regarding student behavior management, we provide ongoing training in how to help students stay on task, and the corporate instruction team assists with students who require individualized behavior plans. We also work with a student’s outside team of professionals whenever possible. Setting the stage for success is core to our approach. We regret that you did not always feel adequately supported. We take feedback seriously in an effort to improve our workplace and communication. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts and for your contribution to Lindamood-Bell over the years. Pros

You get to work with some sweet kids occasionally.

Cons

Work you to the BONE. Every minute you are there you are working even on breaks. Their covid regulations have been embarrassing. Several students and staff have been infected Students are often violent and need something closer to therapists and you have no way of helping them in that way. They say that they will not allow students who act this way since we are not trained to take care of that sort of thing. The pay is very small and the healthcare options are rare. One of the managers has found ways to actively bully me based on the way I look and the gender I present. You are expected to be available to them constantly but if you aren’t full time then you will have hours scheduled all over the place and it will be impossible to do anything else. They have a very strict way you need to present in your clothes, the way you move and speak and they expect 100% of the time for you to be bubbly and fun as students and cliquey almost cult-like staff verbally and sometimes physically assault you.

Pros

you can get a lot of development opportunities and it can be fulfilling to work with the kids

Cons

withholding of compensation and promotions due to student status, despite doing all responsibilities of the job. Lack of diversity. Company culture pretends to care about workers, but it is very obvious they don't. Pay is far too low for the type of work you are asked to do. They let kids treat clinicians poorly with no repercussions. I've been punched, spat on, sneezed on, and no one batted an eye or tried to help me. If you're bad at your job they will keep you and dump a bunch of hours into developing you. If you're good, they'll exploit you and delay promoting you as long as possible. They only care about sales at the end of the day. They see you as disposable and replaceable. They see the kids families as profit machines.
