Pros

Some of the students are awesome kids who work hard. During summer, can expect a regular 30-40 hrs/week. Some of my coworkers have been amazing people. Generous breaks (15-mins every two hours, hour-long lunches). Centers are all by-design and it's easy to transfer almost anywhere. Paid training, often lots of downtime or easy office tasks.

Cons

Schedule completely flips during school year; drops from 40 down to 5-10 hrs/week for most. Will never know schedule until Fri afternoon prior to that work week. Company will be reluctant to change from seasonal status. Benefits are terrible. If your CD is psychotic or under-qualified (happens often) ... work will be difficult. Most centers all-female: drama and pettiness. Some clients are intellectually-disabled and violent. Company will not defend you in any way or form. Trained to not defend yourself and to "let it go" and get over it. Many staff members unreliable and schedule always changing; your schedule may change mid-week. Don't expect a raise - you get what you get.

Pros

Lindamood-Bell provides a great environment for kids to learn. You will learn a very strong system to teach reading. It is a good way to get some teaching chops and work with some fun kids.

Cons

The hours are inconsistent and the drops in enrollment often aren't communicated very well to the tutors. The teaching system and reading materials are also rigid. There is little flexibility for finding new ways to reach students, who the system may not be perfect for.

pay is frustratingly low when you find out how much families pay to send their kids here
