The leadership at Lockheed Martin, particularly at ADP/Skunk Works, can be terrible. There is a significant lack of communication between the hourly and low-salary grade employees and the senior leadership. There doesn't seem to be a shared vision and leadership makes questionable decisions about who they put into positions of authority. The Lockheed organization opted to early-retire most of the senior workforce several years ago, but failed to apprentice their replacements before the left. This left a technical and functional gap which was not adequately filled and now manifests in design issues, build missteps and organizational ignorance. All of this would be solved if there were a performance based employee evaluation system where competent employees who excel are matriculated up the organizational hierarchy. This isn't the case and the employee evaluation system is a joke to most employees. The lack of positive and negative feedback loops between the leadership and the workforce, and the inability for leadership to solve problems, has left the Lockheed Martin ADP organization a shell of its former self.
