Pros

Lumen pays an average salary in the industry, tries to promote from within, and is in a fast paced ever changing industry. My manager let me 'run my business' in regards to leveraging my experience and placing me in projects that fit my strengths. I had a lot of expertise in my position and leveraged that to drive successful project implementations. The benefits package is pretty good with group health plans, retirement, and other perks like discounts with partner company products and services.

Cons

New hires would sometimes make more than a comparable existing employee with years of experience. There was no manager involvement in the last reduction in workforce, it seems to have been based on age and pay, there was no explanation from the stranger who called me to let me know. The company continually tries to reinvent it's image and business focus, so it needs a strong leader to help drive the changes necessary to move forward. Hopefully the new CEO will be able to turn the company into a leaner, more profitable service provider.

Pros

If you can get a role as Lead PM or higher, you will get 'flexible time off' which is basically unlimited vacation

Cons

I have worked for this company for 9 years and about 4 years ago the devil must have whispered in someone's ear because they changed their official HR policy to NO annual merit increases. Basically you have to get promoted or do work way above and beyond your job description to ever get a raise. I personally am going on 4 years with no raise and it's pretty painful considering record inflation.

Pros

No positives come to mind honeslty

Cons

While working at Lumen/Centurylink for 5 years I received one 3.5% raise after 5 years of being a top rated employee. There was a horrible culture where with enough years you could get away with murder and not be fired for anything, but your treated like crap if you don’t have 15 years under your belt. If you work work they’ll reward you by giving you more work with no increase in pay. I was hired as a contractor with the plan that they had to hire me full time after 6 months, but they immediately went back on their promise. The senior leadership are self-serving idiots who don’t understand their own business and will gaslight your at every opportunity. We were able to prove that the Minneapolis market needed to hire 200+ techs to get their numbers in line and they not only ignore it, but laid off more techs on top of it. There’s a lot more, but suffice to say don’t work for this company unless you can get a job in the corporate office.
