      Pros

      I love working for Lumentum. My colleagues are excellent with a wealth of knowledge. My managers always have time for me and listen to what I have to say. I believe I have the best job in the company because my work challenges me every day and I'm able to make a positive impact with the teammates I work with!

      Cons

      Depending on the project, sometimes long hours are necessary.

      Pros

      Many excellent first Line Managers. Great group of engineers. Working environment is ok. Challenging projects, but started too late with too few resources (see Cons).

      Cons

      Project planning is weak. Projects are typically under staffed. Projects tend to start late, ie 2nd or 3rd company in the race. Little advanced research and development. Compensation is average at best. Some second and third line managers are weak.

We do agree that we have great engineers and managers who are doing an excellent job, and one of our guiding principles is to hold ourselves accountable to enable empowerment at all levels. We are building a team of engineers and managers who operate in this way – not expecting, wanting, or allowing micromanagement to occur.

      I love my job, executive management sucks

      Pros

      Benefits, especially health care insurance are excellent. If you are good at what you do as an individual contributor and your manager supports or ignores you, you can do whatever you want. I work on interesting, challenging and useful projects. I've done the best work in my career here. I look forward to going to work every day. Local management is supportive but limited in what they can do to improve my performance. I get paid very well as an HCE, so I have no complaints there. If your are good at what you do, this is the place for you. Because you can deal with all the Cons below.

      Cons

      Infrastructure functions like IT, HR, EHS and facilities are dysfunctional and incompetent. The company doesn't like to spend money to keep up with industry capability. I get to work with obsolete, less capable, impaired and unsupported tools. Executive management is from the disc drive industry and have no clue what a compound semiconductor is. Executive management does not embrace the concept of investing for capability improvement or maintenance. Executive management is totally incompetent, the board of directors should fire them all and seek competent replacements.
