      Pros

      Great people to work with and there is a concerted effort to change the environment from the JDSU split.

      Cons

      Work life balance is off and the company acts like a start up which you would not expect from $900M company

      This has definitely been an exciting yet challenging time for Lumentum as we endeavored a substantial spin-off from JDSU. Especially impacted were the many operational functions. As time progresses and we settle in to the many changes that have taken place we hope that you will see great improvements in our effectiveness.

      Good product, hard working employees, weak IT organization

      Pros

      Good product with hard working employees.

      Cons

      Always in fire drill mode. Executive management team seem to like the fire drill culture. IT organization was weak. Didn't know what they were doing, nor had guidance or strong leaders.

      This has been both a challenging and exciting time for Lumentum as we successfully executed a substantial spin-off from JDSU. In particular this was a tremendous job for many operational functions including IT. As we move forward we definitely see IT improving in regards to its stability and effectiveness, which is a welcome change to the more difficult mode following the spin-off.

      Pros

      Many excellent first Line Managers. Great group of engineers. Working environment is ok. Challenging projects, but started too late with too few resources (see Cons).

      Cons

      Project planning is weak. Projects are typically under staffed. Projects tend to start late, ie 2nd or 3rd company in the race. Little advanced research and development. Compensation is average at best. Some second and third line managers are weak.

We do agree that we have great engineers and managers who are doing an excellent job, and one of our guiding principles is to hold ourselves accountable to enable empowerment at all levels. We are building a team of engineers and managers who operate in this way – not expecting, wanting, or allowing micromanagement to occur.
