Pros

Amazing tech. Some brilliant workers. Solid perks.

Cons

HR lacks knowledge and compassion. Executives often lack basic communication skills. Saying you care about people, but not actually valuing your employees. Lack of feedback. Employees hear through gossip what their boss thinks of their work, but no actual reviews.

Thank you for the feedback. With this pace of growth, it's bound to come with growing pains. It's a big reason Luminar brought me on to the team to help us grow our culture to fully realize the potential of our team and ensure we're as focused on people as much as we have on our product. I’m passionate about helping people realize the full potential and be encumbered to do their best work as we scale this technology to drive the future of transportation. We’re looking for feedback and ideas as we evolve and can reach us here at feedback@luminartech.com anytime. Thanks, Tami

Pros

- Dynamic startup environment with lots of flexibility to tackle new projects. - Many mentoring opportunities with senior and junior employees.

Cons

- Salaries do not match other technology companies. - Many bay area startups provide better benefits. - Many of the mid-managerial positions are filled with outside talent, thwarting growth possibilities of employees.

Executive Leadership is Closed Minded

Pros

Lots of good benefits. Great health care, free food, etc but far out weighed by the cons below.

Cons

Very cutting edge company but has a toxic work environment that will drive you into quitting or being extremely frustrated. Overtime is always expected and saw people have little to no vacation despite the “unlimited vacation” policy and working every weekend. One employee asked about a 4 day work week where the CEO responded “we are more likely switching to a 6 or 7 day work week.” The pay at first was very good. However, the company preaches saving cash in justifying below inflation raises. All while the executives fly private jets and eat lavish dinners on the companies dime while giving themselves large raises and bonuses. Leadership is made up of people with former fancy titles that could care less about you or your success or know anything of leadership. Individual contributions are hardly recognized and if you not in the C suite or in with them you will be left in the dust.
