Toxic Leadership

Pros

Was a good experience when the company was still small, free lunch

Cons

Someone doesn't quit because the work is too hard and usually doesn't because the pay is not good. Someone quits when leadership is filled narcissists. They quit when leadership is not aware of their egos. They quit when leadership doesn't listen. They quit when they are constantly disrespected. They quit when leadership is arrogant, egotistical, and destroys team harmony. A person quits when their mental health is getting worse day by day just because they work for terrible leaders. They quit when boot licking is promoted and honesty is punished. They quit when the office environment is too political and toxic. If you decide to accept a position here, make sure your team is not like this, because most of them are. Or at least make sure the pay is worth what you're about to experience.

Opportunity to be a part of something bigger than you are!

Pros

It is not every day that you get an opportunity to work on technology that is changing the world, especially in Central Florida. I feel honored to be a part of this technology revolution. Some of the perks: Free meals for all employees on each shift Unlimited (free) coffee, snacks, sodas and other beverages onsite Free vision and dental plans for you and your family Two very generous health plan options through Cigna including one plan that is free to employees and significant contributions to your family plan Located in East Orlando right behind UCF GREAT culture and room for advancement! Work on a product that is changing the world!

Cons

Growing pains! Every aggressively growing company has them, and we are not the exception. While growing pains are not necessarily a bad thing, it is if the reasons are not communicated effectively with the rest of the staff. What worked yesterday may not work today and that is ok as long as it is shared and understood by the masses. In order to be successful in a start-up you have to be a chameleon, you have to be able to grow and shift as the company grows and shifts and if you are not used to this, you can feel left behind.

Pros

Very dynamic, fast paced environment. We basically worked on cutting-edge tech, years ahead of competitors. Lots of customer and partner engagements. Did many cool demos at CES and other events. Luminar was generally very generous with tools and services, i.e. you could request pretty much anything and get it approved.

Cons

Senior management (CEO specifically) was inexperienced with capital management, they were spending money like drunken sailors. Fat compensation packages to some executives, lavish parties where people were flown across the continent and stayed in expensive hotels, etc. May 2024 layoffs made very little business sense, e.g. they could have split the sw division into a subsidiary and sold a stake in it to get money they needed. Instead they fired a lot of very talented and experienced people, essentially in one day destroying years and years of progress. This was an extremely bad business decision. The execution of Iris sensor roadmap was an example of incompetence and inexperience. CEO was pretty much absent from day-to-day processes and decisions, only showed up for a quarterly update meeting.
