      New Global Leader - Time will tell

      Pros

      I liked the technical challange offered, opportunities to grow and salary.

      Cons

      At present it has lot of debt. New owner bought it on debt. Tight credit market, shrinking consumer requirement and global competion profits are doubtful.

      Pros

      Very competitive compensation in relation to the rest of the chemical industry and local Houston area. Benefits are on par with other companies. Also, compared to prior companies, I have not had to work as much overtime. I think most people in the company genuinely strive to maintain a "normal" work week and work / life balance.

      Cons

      Management changes to the structure, benefits and performance review systems after the merger of Lyondell and Basell make it like every other chemical and oil and gas company in the area, which is unfortunate because it is becoming "ordinary". Lyondell was previously known for recruiting the best; however, once you are hired, you are given mediocre tasks, not empowered and ideas for improvement are shot down (at least in some areas of the company).
