Pros

The staff members are amazing. Everyone goes above and beyond to care for the residents with little support. Even the local management is great, if they weren't obligated to follow the idiotic guidelines that the home office sets. Helping the residents is so rewarding and I really feel close to a lot of them. Good benefits if you are full time, but the pay is so low it isn't actually worth it.

Cons

CORPORATE! The higher you get in the company, the more fake they are. Headquarters is constantly handing out rules to supposedly benefit the residents, but their only focus is sales and marketing: they only care about getting people to move in, they don't care about how they're treated after the fact. The home office is quick to reprimand you if you don't instantaneously follow every ridiculous piece of red tape to a T, but they never follow through on their end. You will get in trouble for more than a 24 hour turn around on paperwork, emails, etc, but then they will take months to do their part. Our facility used to be incredibly successful because the employees felt like one bug family and treated the residents with love and kindness, but the more that the upper management gets involved and pushes marketing above all else, the more sales and census decline, you'd think they'd get a clue! Budgets are directly related to census, even on overhead costs, so being at a much smaller facility means we need to accomplish the same grandiose activities, food, etc as a facility twice our size, but we don't actually have the budget for it. Most of the budget gets chopped at staff wages, so we can't pay enough to keep people more than a couple of months.

Pros

Health Benefits are a plus and the residents in buildings that rent apartments are also a big plus

Cons

Employees are treated poorly. Every one is treated like they are lucky they have a job. No one is recognized unless it is through negative feedback. Their treatment of residents is awful also! If their families only knew what goes on behind closed doors they would move them out

Pros

Residents are ALWAYS a plus at working in a retirement community (nothing to do with MBK). Annual training retreat is awesome (only for ED's and Marketing though). Great to party with the higher ups and home office staff. Executive Directors and Marketing Directors get good training. They put money into the buildings that they buy. Great IT department.

Cons

Way too much emphasis on lead database management and, of course, OCCUPANCY. Low occupancy??? Marketing Director's FAULT is MBK's stance. Slow couple of months in collecting deposits??? You're written up (literally). MBK might get sued because they didn't train their staff on an important topic??? Employee's fault and you'll get written up. You'll always feel like you might get fired. You'll dread the days that one of the "higher ups" comes to your community for "support." They listen to your phone calls and watch every key stroke on your computer. Lots of hoops to jump through, lots of policies, procedures and programs to follow in every department
