Thank you for your comments. Parking can be a challenge and there is active study ongoing to find viable options within the existing space constraints. We do have some administrative steps that do not exist in private industry and are established to meet security, contracting, and purchasing requirements. We try to keep bureaucracy to a minimum while still meeting the contractual and compliance requirements that exist. Your optimism and positive thoughts are appreciated.

As observed in other reviews, it is true that Lincoln Laboratory does not have a structure that offers the type of vertical growth path that is seen in some other places. We do not have Engineer 1,2 3 4, etc, or Senior, Lead, Principal type of progression. Our levels are essentially Assistant Staff, Associate Staff, or Technical Staff. There is a management path for those who seek that option. It is not uncommon for an employee to be in a level for an extended time, especially in Technical Staff where a a full career can be spent. Our evaluation system is such that compensation can continue to grow in pace with contributions and the marketplace. The tradeoff is that we offer exceptional depth and breadth of opportunity that provides significant technical growth. Operating the Laboratory as a meritocracy is a core value.

Pros

Challenging work and opportunity to work with word-class researchers.

Cons

Limited opportunities for growth. Use to be more difficult for younger people (although management has done a tremendous job improving this!)

Thank you for your insight. It is nice to see that you have observed improvement in opportunity for growth. Lincoln Laboratory does have a fairly flat organization. This has benefits to employees in that it reduces administration and provides more ready access to management. While we do not have a lot of levels to progress through, we do work to provide breadth and depth of opportunity and to calibrate our compensation to recognize accomplishment and contributions. Your thoughts on a need for more transparency are noted. Discussion on how to best present information on the technical ladder rating system are ongoing. We will be looking to make the same type of notable progress that you have seen in the increasing opportunities for newer employees.
