Thank you for your comments. The Laboratory effort to be an inclusive and open environment is continuing. While we are pleased to have accomplished a lot, we consider this an ongoing, core part of our organization. We hope that all employees take advantage of the many educational and learning opportunities that exist, including support for formal education and frequent technical and general interest presentations. The series of lunchtime multicultural music and dance presentations will be continuing. Weekly seasonal farmers markets have been a big hit (really good, fresh corn on the cob). Community outreach including veterans causes and support for the Pan Mass Challenge are among our efforts. The Laboratory is supportive of the formation of employee interest groups and encourages interested employees to work with our Diversity and Inclusion staff to investigate possibilities

Pros

Interesting work. Laid-back feel. Smart co-workers.

Cons

Group leaders oversee large groups and don't have a good feel for who does what. The review process can thus be arbitrary

We are pleased that you have been with us for a full year and are finding the work interesting and seeing the strong capabilities of your co-workers. These are big components of the work environment here. The laid back feel is the result of a conscious management effort to be aware of the importance of work-life balance. We try hard to make individual merit the biggest driver in performance reviews. Hopefully you will have conversation with your management team about your review as that is a valued part of the review process. Please be assured that there are avenues available to facilitate that conversation if you feel that is not the case.

Pros

Benefits, interesting work, some freedom to perform research with personal interest.

Cons

Old boy network. Promotions based on brown nosing the group leaders. No hope for lateral transfers. PHd heavy staff with a clear caste system. Elitist ignorant staff.
