MIT Lincoln Laboratory Response

Your ten + years of experience are appreciated and we are pleased that the benefits program is something that you have taken advantage of. MIT and Lincoln Laboratory are proud to offer a comprehensive program that addresses most employee needs. Our retirement programs are very strong and we are able to offer a broad menu of medical and other insurance programs. While there are fewer levels of employment at the Laboratory than in some places, we are able to be quite competitive in our compensation systems. With a focus on merit and keeping the Laboratory positioned as a desirable employer, employees find that a career at Lincoln Laboratory can be financially rewarding as well technically and professionally fulfilling. Thanks for your comments.

Pros

An organization where engineers and scientists are valued, the chance to learn from smart people all around you, top notch lab and information resources, advancement possible via technical or management routes, work-life balance and health/wellness are officially supported.

Cons

Relatively low compensation makes it difficult to achieve a good quality of life in the Boston area and causes turnover of some very good employees. Professional development is hit-or-miss depending on your group leadership. The performance review process seems arbitrary and lacks real benefits beyond some very basic feedback.

Pros

technical work varies by group, but mostly cutting edge and challenging; pretty good benefits (not as good as they think); good work/life balance plans

Cons

senior management lacks business sense and vision. way behind the times on basic system processes. old boys network exists, not much growth for anyone not in the network; treatment of employees are not good.
