Pros

Great students, faculty and staff to work with, a very talented but unaffected group of people for the most part. This is a community of people who like to solve problems. Students are quick learners, and that is true with practical and professional skills as well as with intellectual skills.

Cons

If you want to work with students from a broader liberal arts background, there is a relatively small proportion of students majoring in those fields here. This is primarily a STEM community. I thought initially that could be a problem for me, but it has not been at all. Liberal arts skills are in evidence in electives and in student activities, and the students are great.

Pros

Fabulously stimulating place to work and to be. Adventurous, willing to take chances. Very good benefits (although that has eroded some with the changes in the US economy).

Cons

On the administrative side, you can take chances but risk losing trust and access if anything goes wrong. Extreme stratification in wealth, increasingly reflecting US and world economy. Raises at senior level can approach 20% a year while 3% is allocated for rest. The usual, "We're adults; employees act like children" attitude among senior managers -- although management teams are often the most infantile in how they conduct themselves.

Pros

Good benefits, nice environment, very convenient. They offer 50% public transportation. There are medical facilities onsite. Interesting groups to join.

Cons

The pay is not what one would expect from an institution that has world-wide recognition. There are elements of the job that go far above and beyond what can be considered reasonable. There is a reluctance to support staff when a faculty member misbehaves.
