Pros

The whole federal consulting field allows for a nice pipeline from taxpayer, to government, to government employees, who are wealthy enough to themselves be taxpayers but not so wealthy as to avoid taxes. So the compensation is great. If you can stick to your principle and accept only work for the agencies that you believe in, you can look at yourself in the mirror every morning. As of now, there are some work from home options, but the company has been signaling that it will take those away for over a year now.

Cons

There’s no way this whole enterprise stays financially viable for the next ten years. Salaries are competitive with private sector, but budgets are not. There will be a reckoning. Also, like every other company I’ve ever seen or worked for, efforts at diversity and inclusion are window dressing, and ultimately designed to maintain a delicate status quo.

Pros

The pros are dwindling but there are still some fantastic people to learn from. The campus is well kept. Nice gym.

Cons

After 30 years , MITRE has become a place of talk with little walk . How many more VPs can we bring on from Booze Allen . I urge you after reading this to see their credentials . Psychology , travel , communications and of course systems engineers that haven't seemed to ever oversee a real system .LOL. Of course, salaries in the 250 to 300 k range are hard to turn down but, Mitre engineers at the VP level and fellows from my day had real credentials and would lay waste to these new so called leaders. No comparing technical ability , work ethic and dedication to company and country like the people I remeber , Ronald Fante , Betz,,Mike Butler . I could go on. We now have a political , Woke , workspace that doesn't work for what MITRE is, I guess supposed to be. It might be a great model for a poetry school, art school or a job as a house representative .But we were supposed to solve problems quickly and efficiently . I 'm not seeing it . Other posts seem to agree. I see very little innovative work . There are a few reverse engineering projects that are interesting but far more time and effort is put into Woke, political , feel good groups.

Pros

- large diversity of work opportunities - good education benefits

Cons

- continual need to job hunt ( every ~6 months or so) to maintain contract coverage, can be extremely nerve-wracking as you're also expected to network and find jobs for those that work under you - year after year we've seen reduction in benefits, given that salary is lower than comparable private sector companies that makes the company less attractive - company is spread far apart (you'll often be on teams with people located in several different teams), but leadership is gradually enforcing more RTO measures
